This is a wonderful place to live for those studying in the Kralingse Zoom area. It’s peaceful and easily accessible, yet you can still get to the centre in 15 minutes by cycling along the Maas. You don’t even have to leave the building to enjoy a magnificent view of the Rotterdam skyline, just check it out from the communal roof terrace. There’s a bar you can hire if you want to throw a party and the residents’ committee often organises drinks that everyone can go to. The building is located on Brandkraanpad on the site which used to be home to DWL (Rotterdamse Drinkwaterleiding = Rotterdam Waterworks).
Students can rent one of 70 rooms or 36 studios D.W.L. has to offer. The rooms measure an average 19m2 and almost all of them (68 out of 70) have their own bathroom and toilet – what a luxury! You’ll share a large kitchen, with a balcony, with fellow residents. The 36 studios measure an average 31m2. In these, all the facilities are private.
The Esch is an area with lots of open space. If you’re feeling energetic, you can have a game of tennis on the public court in the park next to your building, or go to one of the area’s sports clubs. Out and about, you can enjoy the Rotterdam skyline as you cycle along the Maas to the centre, or take the route through Kralingen where you can stop off at one of the nice student bars. A little further away, in the Kralingse Bos, you can go for a bracing run or take in a festival in the summer. De Esch is easily accessible by public transport and by car. The university and Hogeschool Rotterdam’s Kralingse Zoom location are only five minutes away by bike and other college sites are also within cycling distance.
Want to live here? To apply, you must be registered with Stadswonen Rotterdam. Please be aware of our rental conditions for students.
