This building from 1931 has a very special history. It was originally built for the Municipal Energy Company and has many authentic details. Until 1968, it was Rotterdam’s tallest building and in the Second World War the German occupation used it as a watchtower. Now this national heritage building is a student residence on the Coolhaven waterfront, close to Erasmus MC and several Hogeschool Rotterdam locations.
GEB-toren has 143 rooms and 92 studios available for students to rent. The rooms measure an average 22m2. Some involve sharing a kitchen, bathroom and toilet with one or more fellow residents. Others have their own private bathroom and toilet, so only the kitchen is shared. In the studios, which measure 32m2 on average, all the facilities are private. The GEB tower has a residents’ committee.
This is a fantastic location for students! You’ll be just a few minutes' walk from Nieuwe Binnenweg, the Netherlands’ longest shopping street, where you can watch a band in Rotown and grab pizza for next-to-nothing in Stalles. It’s just a short cycle ride to Witte de Withstraat or the shops on Oude Binnenweg and Koopgoot. Behind GEB-toren you’ll find yourself standing eye to eye with the Euromast, which means you’re also close to Het Park, a place to spend summer stretched out on the grass or visiting a festival. Meanwhile, Erasmus MC, various Hogeschool Rotterdam locations and Dijkzigt and Coolhaven metro stations are just a 5-minute walk away.
